Ordination of new Balanga bishop set
MANILA, April 29, 2010—The ordination of the new head of Balanga diocese has been set at the Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, on June 24, 2010.
Msgr. Ruperto C. Santos, named by the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, as Bishop of the Diocese of Balanga in Bataan last April 1, 2010, will be ordained bishop by Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Apostolic nuncio to the Philippines.
The Eucharistic Celebration will be presided by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales. Msgr. Santos is a member of the diocesan clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila.
Prior to his appointment, Santos was the rector of Collegio Filippino in Rome. He is also the National Coordinator of the Italian Bishops’ Conference for the Pastoral Care of Filipino migrants in Italy and Member of Pontificio Comitato per i Congressi Eucaristici Internazionali in the Vatican, Rome.
Born on October 1957, Santos is a native of Bulacan. He has three sisters who are all married and a brother.
He graduated at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary in Makati City. He finished Philosophy in San Carlos Seminary and did his Theology studies at the San Carlos Graduate School of Theology.
Ordained priest by Jaime L. Cardinal Sin on September 10, 1983 at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila, Santos obtained his Licentiate in Church History from the Pontificia Università Gregoriana in Rome (1987-1990).
Santos will be installed as fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Balanga on July 8, 2010. (Kate Laceda)
